As part of our commitment to keeping local communities informed about project activities, we are pleased to introduce our new monthly project update.
Each month, we will share the latest information on construction progress, upcoming works, key milestones, and any activities that may be of interest to residents, businesses, road users, and other stakeholders. Our aim is to provide clear and timely updates so that everyone can stay informed about how the project is progressing.
This month’s update includes the latest news from the landfall, cable route, and substation works, highlighting recent achievements and the activities planned in the weeks ahead.

Landfall update
Work continues to progress well at the landfall site, with several significant milestones recently achieved:
Recent progress
- The first Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) has been completed successfully.
- The first duct pull has been completed, with the duct towed directly from Norway to the offshore site before being pulled ashore.
- The second Horizontal Directional Drill has now commenced.
- Following feedback from local residents, additional noise attenuation measures have been installed to help minimise disruption. This includes the installation of a secondary acoustic wall.
Upcoming activities
Over the next month:
- Horizontal Directional Drilling operations will continue on a 24-hour basis, with ongoing noise monitoring throughout the works.
- The jack-up barge will be repositioned approximately 70 metres south-west of its current location. The existing exclusion zone detailed in the current Notice to Mariners will remain in place. (Link will open in a new window.)
Onshore Cable Route (ONCA) update
Construction activities along the cable route are continuing, with work progressing across several areas:
Current activities
- Continued construction of the haul road from Access Point 2 (AP2, Sizewell Gap) towards the Hundred River, including associated topsoil stripping.
- Duct installation commenced near the Sizewell Estate last week.
- Anti-skid surfacing installed at Thorpe Road ahead of four-way temporary traffic lights being installed in the coming weeks. These lights are being installed to manage safe traffic flow and access and egress to the haul road.
Upcoming activities
- Hundred River HDD pipe welding and fabrication is expected to commence within the next four weeks.
Onshore Substation (ONSS) update
Construction at the substation site continues to advance, with work currently focused on key civil engineering activities:
Current and upcoming activities
- Continuing concreting and foundation works for all buildings across the site.
- Commencing installation of the building steel framework, with works expected to continue from September through to November.
- Ongoing construction of the permanent access road from Saxmundham Road into the site, including sections of tarmacing.
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) has commenced piling works for its substation.
