Many thanks to SEAS supporter and well-known writer Julia Blackburn, who has written a couple of excellent pieces in support of our campaign.
Ozymandias in Suffolk is a passionate critique of the UK government’s decision to build massive infrastructure in the Suffolk Coastal area. Unlike European countries, which place such converters offshore, the UK is opting to build them on land to cut costs and boost private profits. Julia highlights the environmental and cultural significance of our affected region, home to fragile ecosystems and cherished landscapes. The piece draws a parallel with Shelley’s Ozymandias, warning of the arrogance and short-sightedness of imposing industrial structures on such a treasured environment. READ it HERE.
The Metal Fences of Suffolk is a personal critical reflection on the environmental destruction caused by onshore construction for energy projects. She laments the loss of natural landscapes, the spread of security fences, and the silencing of local voices, likening the changes to a form of modern colonisation. READ it HERE.
