Aug 6, 2025 | Scottish Power EA1N & EA2

East Anglia TWO Offshore Windfarm

We would like to inform you that ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) will be undertaking essential ground investigation works at the substations area in Friston, from Monday 11th August.

The schedule of work is as follows:

  • Start Date: Monday 11th August 2025
  • Duration: Approximately five weeks
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 6:00pm, Saturday: 8:00am – 1:00pm, No works will take place on Sundays/bank holidays.

Scope of works:

  • Digging trial holes approx 1m x 1m x 1m with a small excavator and banksman.
  • A percussion drilling, towed on the back of a trailer will be erected to drill 2 meter length pipes into the ground, as well as controlled weights.
  • Cone Penetration Test – a purpose built tracked vehicle and test lab is positioned at the desired location and a cone shaped metal rod is forced into the ground using hydraulic rams inside of the vehicle. The test lab then measures the forces it takes to force the rod in and for the displacement of the surrounding soils.

This programme of ground investiations surveys is required at the substations area to further examine the geotechnical conditions. This survey builds on earlier site investigation works, that were undertaken before appointment of the civil works contractor, the combined results of which will be used to inform inter alia the detailed design of the substations, including earthworks, foundations, drainage and permanent access.

Please note, excavators and a percussion drilling rig will be used during this work, however this will not be in constant use. Temporary acoustic screening around trial holes will be used if needed, and we will continue to monitor noise levels. Dust management will also be employed where necessary.
