We would like to inform you of upcoming construction activities associated with the East Anglia TWO (EA2) and East Anglia ONE North (EA1N) offshore windfarm projects, which will take place during October 2026. These works are necessary to facilitate the ongoing development of the projects’ underground cable route and associated access points, and permanent access road to the substation in Friston.
Thorpe Road (B1353) – Access points 3 & 4
We will be undertaking civil engineering works along Thorpe Road at Access Points 3 and 4.
Road closure
Thorpe Road (B1353) will be closed 24 hours a day from Monday 5 October to Friday 30 October 2026.
The road closure will remain in place continuously, including outside of working hours, to ensure the safety of road users and the construction workforce. Signed diversion routes will be in place and are included on our interactive map.
Working Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7am to 6pm
- Saturday: 7am to 1pm
- No works on Sundays
Scope of works
The works will include:
- Installation of underground ducting for cables beneath the road.
- Construction of a temporary signalised haul road crossing for project construction traffic.
- Installation of associated kerbing, road markings and signage.
- Civil engineering works as part of the EA1N and EA2 underground cable route enabling works.
Traffic management
Temporary four-way traffic signals are already in place at Access Points 3 and 4 and will remain operational throughout the construction period. These measures are required to safely manage traffic movements where construction vehicles access and cross the highway.
The traffic signals and crossing points will remain in place until project activities at these locations have been completed, after which they will be removed.
Saxmundham Road (B1121) – Access point 13
We will be undertaking work on the B1121 to facilitate construction of access point 13.
Road closure for vegetation removal
- Dates: Monday 5 October to Friday 9 October 2026
- Purpose: Vegetation clearance works to prepare the site for construction activities.
- A section of the B1121 will be closed for the duration of these works. Signed diversion routes will be in place and are included on our interactive map.
Temporary traffic management for bellmouth construction
Following the vegetation clearance works:
- Dates: Monday 12 October to Friday 30 October 2026
- Traffic management: Single-lane closures controlled by temporary traffic lights.
- Purpose: Construction of the new access bellmouth serving Access Point 13.
We appreciate that these measures may cause some inconvenience; however, they are necessary to enable the works to be carried out safely and efficiently.
Access arrangements
Throughout all works, access will be maintained for:
- Pedestrians
- Wheelchair users
- Cyclists
- Parents and carers with buggies or prams
Construction teams will make every effort to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users wherever possible. They will also work with the emergency services as required. If work finishes ahead of schedule, traffic management will be removed.
