National Grid has revealed the preferred landfall sites and cabling routes for the LionLink interconnector between Holland and the UK, with proposed landfall at Southwold or Walberswick. This makes it more likely that Sea Link an HVDC cable between Suffolk and Kent, will come onshore between Aldeburgh and Thorpeness.
See the BBC’s article on LionLink HERE and an ITV summary with useful maps of just some of the many projects due to have a devastating impact on the Suffolk Coast HERE
You can read LionLink’s Consultation Report Executive Summary but much better to review the full report HERE
SEAS understanding is that ALDEBURGH NORTH WARREN has been CHOSEN for SEALINK and TWO other schemes. They can only squeeze in two or three M11 width cable trenches through NORTH WARREN RSPB, hence they have to find an additional landfall site further north for LionLink.
SEAS continues on TV, Radio and in the Press to challenge these plans, WATCH our appearance on ITV Anglia on 6 March HERE
These are the wrong plans in the wrong places!
We know that LIONLINK can go to an existing BROWNFIELD SITE CLOSER to LONDON such as GRAIN or BRADWELL and pool energy with the wind farms ScottishPower EA1N and EA2.
The technology is advancing by the day and is available to be implemented now.
It requires the will of Government to halt these massive and needlessly destructive plans.
YOU DON’T’ BUILD A MAJOR ENERGY HUB ON THE BEAUTIFUL HERITAGE COAST.
The Dutch and Belgians are not stupid. They build these hubs at preindustrialised brownfield sites.
PLEASE, use the SEAS website for information to support the offshore proposals.
We are currently in discussions directly with National Grid UK ESO regarding alternative scenarios. And, our judicial review outcome will not be known until after Easter.
WE REMAIN A CAMPAIGN GROUP WORKING for the WHOLE SUFFOLK HERITAGE COAST.
WE WILL NOT REST UNTIL WE STOP ALL THESE ILL-CONCEIVED PLANS, SEALINK, LIONLINK and OTHERS.
