Last week, we were assailed with devastating news regarding LionLink’s plans:
LionLink’s Non-Statutory Consultation documents, confirmed proposals for ANOTHER HUGE 26 m HIGH SAXMUNDHAM CONVERTER STATION and LANDFALLS at WALBERSWICK or REYDON/ SOUTHWOLD, all representing NEEDLESS DESTRUCTION, when there are BETTER SOLUTIONS OFFSHORE using EXISTING BROWNFIELD SITES.
These plans would represent a seismic change in the character of Suffolk Coast and Heaths towards an industrialised zone.
Curiously, in the same week, we read a VERY DIFFERENT VISION of the future from Ofgem.
In the Ofgem Report “Initial Project Assessment of the Offshore Hybrid Asset (OHA) Pilot Projects” on Page 19, it states:
“it is expected that OHAs could play an important role in enabling the development of offshore renewables in the context of increasingly crowded seas and supply chain constraints, reducing the number of assets required to connect generation, and consequently reducing investment costs and societal impacts..” [OHA’s are offshore platforms where wind farms and interconnectors can pool energy, as we have been pushing for in our offshore grid solutions]
OFGEM is starting to proclaim that the new world is here. It’s time for NATIONAL GRID to HALT THESE OUTDATED, NEEDLESSLY DESTRUCTIVE plans, and start to plan a smarter future using North Sea meshed offshore grids and follow the lead of Belgium and Holland. Ironically, National Grid on their own website HERE mention OHA’s as the future, but they are not walking the talk in terms of current plans. National Grid have their head in the sand.
Ofgem and DESNZ need to point the way to National Grid. Instruct them to halt these catastrophic plans.
“Wake up National Grid, you are out of date. And your selfish land grab is no longer acceptable“.
